The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Abuse

This is just placeholder text. Don’t be alarmed, this is just here to fill up space since your finalized copy isn’t ready yet.

As many would be sadly aware the percentage of Aboriginal people giving evidence to the Commission has been extraordinarily higher than the percentage of Aboriginal people in the Australian population. At the last report we are 10 times more likely to have been/be abused in out of home care than other Australians. We have supported people who have made submissions, many of them being Stolen Generations and the children of Stolen Generations survivors. The range of organisations admitting to poor responses to child abuse is astoundingly broad and in one notable case, the Jehovah’s Witnesses, the lack of regard for the children left in their care had everyone here stunned. Jim Morrison was subpoenaed to give evidence at the Commission and prepared written evidence as well. He has proposed actions that would help to help those abused as they travel onwards and we and our partner organisations are currently looking at how these may be put into effect.
